Posted March 01, 2019 05:17:23Police are investigating the disappearance of two cats from a Sydney apartment building.
Key points:One of the cats has Down SyndromeThe cats were taken to a vet to have their genetic markers testedThe owners say they didn’t realise their cat was a Down syndrome ratBut the cats were found dead at the bottom of a trash bin.
Police are now asking anyone with information about the missing cats to call Crime Stoppers.
Police said the cats’ owners were shocked when they found them dead at their home on July 28.
They said the owners, who were in their early 20s, didn’t know they were missing their cats.
“They were quite devastated, they didn�t realise that they had their cat and that it was a rat,” Detective Superintendent John Haughton said.
“We are still investigating to find out why it was that it had happened and whether it was because they were using a vacuum cleaner or if it was something more nefarious.”‘
A sad day for a sad family’Detective Superintendent John Horgan said the couple had no idea their cat had Down Syndrome.
“It is just sad for them, they have a cat and they have no idea it is a rat and there is no way they could have left it there,” he said.
Police have not yet identified the cats.
